Pacemaker & Defibrillator Care
If you have a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), regular follow-up care is essential to ensure your device is functioning properly and your heart rhythm is well-controlled.
About Your Device
Pacemakers help control abnormal heart rhythms by sending electrical pulses to your heart to maintain a proper rate and rhythm.
ICDs monitor your heart rhythm and deliver electrical shocks when needed to restore a normal rhythm if a life-threatening arrhythmia is detected.
Follow-up Care
Regular device checks are important to:
- Monitor battery life and device function
- Review stored heart rhythm data
- Adjust device settings if needed
- Ensure leads are working properly
- Check for any potential issues
What to Expect
During your follow-up visits, we use a specialized programmer to communicate with your device and download information. The process is painless and usually takes 15-30 minutes. We also perform remote monitoring to check your device between office visits.
Contact us if you experience symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations, or if your ICD delivers a shock.
